DotNetNuke is a website development framework, that allows you to quickly install content, and change themes easily.

DotNetNuke is a common platform with Windows servers.

Installing DotNetNuke 7.1.0

Logging into Windows Control Panel

The simplest way to install DotNetNuke is by logging into the Windows Control Panel.

You can accomplish this by opening your website address, and adding ':9001' to the end.

Example: http://example.com.au:9001

Type in your Username and Password then click Sign In.


Prerequisites

In order for DotNetNuke 7.1.0, the website needs to be configured for 4.0 (Integrated Pipeline). This can be done by doing the following:

  • Login to Windows Control Panel, click Web Sites.

 

  • Click on the web site you are planning to install DotNetNuke, and go to the Extensionstab.
    • ASP should be enabled already.
    • ASP.NET needs to be set to 4.0 (Integrated Pipeline).


  • Click Update to save the changes to the server.

 

Windows Control Panel Installation

  • Login to Windows Control Panel, click Application Installer.

 

  • Click Install next to DotNetNuke 7.1.0 Community Edition.
  • Installation Location


    • Choose the website you wish to install DotNetNuke from the dropdown box.
    • Leave Virtual Directory blank, if you want your main page to be your DotNetNuke site.
  • Database


    • SQL Server 2008 should be selected by default.
    • Select New Database to prevent information in existing databases from being lost
    • Type desired Database Name. (ie. Username_DNN)
    • Select New user account, and create a Username/Password.
      • Note: This data will be referenced by the application directly, however it may be best to keep a record somewhere.
  • Click Install to start the process.
  • After install, click OK to complete.

 

DNN Configuration

Navigate to your new website via your browser, and this will now load the DNN Installation Wizard. The first page will ask for some more information relating to the website itself.



  • Administrative Information
    • Create a username and password for logging into the DotNetNuke administrator section of the website.
  • Website Information
    • Create a name for the website.
    • Choose either a Default Template or a Blank Template.
      • Note: Default Template may load sample information and images into your pages to illustrate positioning and styles.
    • Choose a language
      • Note: Choosing a language other than English may prevent us from assisting you.
  • Database Information
    • Leave Database Setup as Default.
  • Click Continue

DotNetNuke will now finish the installation, and provide you with a button/link to your website.

 

Click the link to start modifying the website, and to view the quick start wizards.

 

DNN Errors & Resolutions

Error During Installation

Most commonly, the only error message to appear during the installation will be the following:

 

'ERROR occurred - AppPool in IIS must run under Integrated Mode'

This error occurs when the ASP.NET profile is not set to integrated mode. For setting the ASP.NET profile to integrated mode, please see Prerequesites above.
